The L.J. Griffin Funeral Home, one of Michigan's largest and most respected family owned funeral firms, began it’s legacy in 1954. As husband and wife, Larry and Gerry Griffin opened the doors to their first funeral home on Plymouth Road in Detroit. Gerry was one of three women in the State of Michigan licensed and serving as a full-time funeral director. She was part of a grass roots effort in developing the Michigan Women's Funeral Director Association. Together Larry and Gerry Griffin laid the foundation of outstanding professional care, guiding families through the most difficult time of their lives.

Encouraged by local clergy, the Griffin’s opened their second funeral home in 1972 servicing Westland and the surrounding communities. As the family and grew, son’s Larry and David entered the family business becoming the second generation of funeral directors. Believing that every community deserves a place where family members can be honored and celebrated, the Griffins expanded their outreach into Canton, Livonia, Northville and Brighton.
To quote David Griffin…”It’s not just about building funeral homes. We build a tradition of quality service with the highest ethical standards, insuring each family we serve receives compassion and understanding after loss.”
The Griffin’s motto, “Service –A Family Tradition” is proudly embraced by the third Griffin generation of the Griffin family with David’s daughter, Alexandra and Larry’s son, Sean, providing the same compassionate care and professional attention families have come to know, respect and trust for over 65 years.
